Pre-Operative Instructions
Prior to Anesthesia
Do not have anything to eat or drink at least 6 hours prior to the scheduled surgery. If directed by your doctor you may take medications with a small sip of water.
Drink lots of water/fluids the day before surgery so that you are hydrated and your veins are larger to make IV access easier.
You must have a responsible adult driver present in the office during the surgery and to drive you home. This person may not leave the office while you are having surgery.
Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
Do not wear earrings, nail polish, jewelry, lipstick, or excessive makeup on the day of surgery.
Please wear a short sleeve shirt (if possible), loose fitting clothing, and low-heeled shoes.
Please remove contact lenses before your appointment.
The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following general anesthesia.
Please notify the office if you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset prior to surgery.
