Accelerated Orthodontics

Dr. Robinson is a provider of surgically assisted orthodontics or as it is more commonly called Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (AOO). One of the drawbacks from getting orthodontic care can sometimes be the length of time needed for treatment. Surgically assisted orthodontics can speed up the treatment time while still providing a functional, stable and health bite.

The technique is predictable and can reduce the total treatment time down to 3-8 months. The procedure impacts the way in which the tissue (bone and gingiva) around the teeth respond to the forces applied by orthodontics.

This surgical procedure produces a healing response known as the regional acceleratory phenomenon (RAP) which accelerates the metabolism and physiology of the bone and soft tissue. It results in orthodontic movement of the teeth than can be 3 to 4 times faster than traditional orthodontic treatment.

Surgery is usually done in the office under IV sedation and recovery is typically easier than wisdom teeth extractions. In certain situations bicuspid extraction and corrective jaw surgery can be avoided with this less invasive surgical approach.

Dr. Robinson will work closely with your orthodontist on determining if you are a candidate, and then develop the optimal treatment plan for your needs.
